About the Master

Sharon is a Houston native with a background in Kinesiology and Exercise Science and a master’s degree in physical therapy. She found her passion for Brazilian jiu-jitsu later in life, starting with kickboxing and boxing before diving into Jiu-Jitsu at 44, and quickly immersing herself in the sport. Despite facing chronic illnesses and major surgeries along the way, Sharon competed in over 40 IBJJF competitions in 6 years, including several majors, winning numerous titles along the way.

Jiu-jitsu is a crucial empowerment tool for women, offering not just physical strength but also strategic skills to defend themselves intelligently and effectively. Jiu-jitsu uses the opponent’s size and strength against them, helping women to level the playing field against sheer force. Jiu-jitsu is also a great way to lose weight, build strength, and make friends. Come on over and try it out!

FAQs

Q Will jiu jitsu help my child with focus and discipline?

Yes, Jiu jitsu helps young children improve focus, follow instructions better, and build discipline through consistent routines and positive coaching. We understand that the younger kids have a shorter attention span, so we structure our classes to teach through play. This helps retain their attention and motivate them to keep giving.

Q Can shy kids benefit from jiu jitsu classes?

Yes, Jiu jitsu is an excellent platform for shy or socially awkward kids to blossom gently and gain social skills. Jiu jitsu is a partnered sport, so having the opportunity to work with someone else will automatically set you up for friendships. It helps your child become more comfortable with physical contact in a safe environment and helps them overcome their fear of approaching others or being approached. We emphasize friendship and comradery, and we also end our classes with a game for added fun and release of energy.
